What treatment is right for me?

Move Well Health offers both Chiropractic Care and Therapeutic Massage. Chiropractic Care works specifically with disorders of the musculoskeletal and nervous system, while massage is known to help with tension and pain of soft tissue/muscle.

Both Chiropractors and Massage Therapists use their hands to treat patients however there is a drastic difference between the two. The therapies go hand in hand as many chiropractors will recommend massage therapy along with chiropractic treatment.

Is Chiropractic Treatment Safe?

Chiropractic Treatment is a drug free and non-invasive modality of treatment for mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects they have on the body’s nervous systems and general health.

Although chiropractic has an excellent safety record, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse side effects. A New Zealand study suggests that taking an over-the-counter pain reliever is 100 times the risk of chiropractic treatment. The risks associated with Chiropractic are very small with few patients experiencing mild soreness, stiffness or aching after spinal manipulations, as they would after some forms of exercise. This typically fades within 24 hours of treatment.

Chiropractors are highly trained professionals who have completed an extensive 5 year university degree. They are trained to identify patients with special risk-factors and will refer those patients to the appropriate medical specialists. If chiropractic treatment can help you, our practitioners will discuss the appropriate type of treatment for your condition.

What is an adjustment?

Adjustments help normalize spinal function. Your chiropractor uses their hands, a small instrument or a drop-piece table to apply a controlled adjustment to a specific area of the spine. These adjustments correct spinal alignment, release built up tension and increase neuromusculoskeletal function.

Does Chiropractic Treatment Hurt?

Chiropractic treatment is not normally painful. In some cases, there may be soreness to the area being adjusted during treatment or occuring post treatment. This is normal part of the healing process and typically fades within 24 hours.

Many times there is an audible “pop” often referred to as “cracking” of the spine. This noise is simply a release of gas from a joint and is not bones rubbing together or anything breaking.

What style of Chiropractic Treatment do we use?

Our Practitioners use a variety of chiropractic styles specific to your condition including Diversified, Gonstead, Activator, Drop piece, Webster technique and Cranial work.

Am I too old for treatment?

Not at all. Here at Move Well Health we welcome patients of all ages. Chiropractic treatment works to restore and improve spinal function and can help improve mobility, vitality and endurance. Many patients report improvement with arthritic symptoms and other chronic ailments associated with aging. Treatment methods are gentle and our practice has a special HYLO table available to help treat our less mobile patients while standing.

Is it okay to see a chiropractor if I am pregnant?

Yes, chiropractic treatment during pregnancy are safe. Expecting mothers have found that chiropractic adjustments have helped reduce back pain and other painful symptoms, feel more mobile during pregnancy.

How long will I need care for? What results can I expect? How long until I feel better?

The results of chiropractic treatment vary according to each individual’s specific condition. While some patients experience relief almost instantly, others are feeling better within two weeks. Factors that affect your rate of healing include diagnosis, age, type of injury, your general health, how long you have had the injury and if you are receiving regular treatments.

What is Therapeutic Massage? What types of massage do you offer?

We offer a range of advanced relaxation and rehabilitation massage therapies centered on working with the deep tissue areas and correcting postural abnormalities. We will assess your current posture, range of muscle and joint mobility in order to structure a treatment plan that delivers sustainable lifestyle improvements. In addition, simple and practical exercises may be prescribed to allow you to sustain your improved flexibility and functional awareness. We are excited about the range of treatments we offer supporting this collaborative approach to good health.

What do I need to bring to my appointment?

Please bring any past test results and any imaging reports (x-rays, CT scans, MRIs etc.) relevant to your condition. During your initial appointment our Practitioners will refer you for any relevant tests or scans if required.

What should I wear?

Our Chiropractors treat patients in the clothes they have come in with. Any bulky clothing such as a jacket or heavy jumper may need to be removed.
Our massage therapists treat patients draped with towels and typically in their under garments. Our therapists can complete the treatment fully or partially clothed as requested.

What happens if I need to change my appointment?

If you need to reschedule your appointment we ask that you contact us in advance. Our friendly reception staff will be able to find a more suitable time for you. You can contact us by clicking here

Do I need a referral from a GP?

No, you do not need a referral from a GP to make an appointment to see a Chiropractor. Chiropractors are primary health care practitioners so you can contact us directly to make an appointment.

Your doctor may be able to provide you with a referral under medicare as part of the program called Enhanced Primary Care (EPC). This entitles you to 5 free visits each year. Ask your doctor if you qualify.

We also provide Chiropractic Care for patients under Workcover, DVA (Department of Veteran Affairs) and Motor Vehicle Accidents (TAC) programs.

How can I claim my private health insurance?

Private Health rebates are available on the spot through our HICAPS terminal. You rebat is determined by your level of cover with your health fund provider. We can provide you with a rebate quote prior to your appointment as requested.
